This comprehensive training and education course includes operating both security vessel platforms at increased speeds in open water; getting underway, approaching and mooring to dock landings in confined-space; and performing man-overboard recovery procedures. Students will be introduced to nautical terminology, mission responsibilities and pre-planned responses for addressing threats to life and government property in the security zone, fundamentals of first aid and shipboard emergency procedures, and an overview of the U.S. Coast Guard Inland Navigation Rules. Additional instruction includes advanced, small boat tactics and techniques such as shadowing and herding non-compliant vessels and deploying non-lethal prop fouling gear in support of maritime security. Students will learn to hail vessel contacts of interest to determine their intent of compliance, non-compliance and vessels posing an imminent threat (VPITs). Students will learn the purpose and procedures for initiating non-compliant vessel pursuits, intercepts, and/or escorts. Additionally, we’ll discuss the waterborne security boat’s role in a maritime “defense in depth” security zone.
